COME GROW WITH US!

Our Green Thumb participants help to keep our gardens well-maintained and our programs running smoothly. This is a part-time, seasonal position, with participants starting work in April and ending in October/November.

Prior experience in gardening or agriculture is welcome but not required. This program seeks to expand knowledge and skills in urban agriculture within the Staunton community.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Green Thumb Grower

The Green Thumb Grower is a seasonal position which supports garden operations at Jones Gardens’ Staunton garden sites (500 and 905 Montgomery Ave). The individual fulfilling this role will complete a variety of garden tasks daily in order to maintain an organized and productive garden space.  This position will also assist with garden programming as needed and regularly oversee community volunteers and garden visitors.


Primary Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of Jones Gardens leadership, the Green Thumb Grower will:
  • Assist with the upkeep of both community gardens in Staunton (including watering, weeding, planting, pruning, and harvesting as needed)
  • Assist with overseeing volunteers during community volunteer days
  • Assist with the implementation of garden programs including the Food Delivery Service and Composting Program
  • Assist with Market Days as needed including market set up, handling transactions, assisting customers, and market clean up
  • Properly document garden data

Hourly Pay: $20/hour
Hours: 
Seasonal: (April - October/November)

24-30 hours/week
6-hour shifts (7a - 1p)
4-5 days a week

*Must be able to work alternating Saturdays

Qualifications:
  • A cheerful, welcoming, and patient personality  
  • Time management skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
  • Ability to be outdoors for several hours at a time
  • Ability to navigate, bend, and kneel in rough/uneven terrain

​Requirements:
  • Reliable transportation 
  • Cell phone for regular communication
  • Valid driver’s license
